Culture &
Values
At Aotea Electric, a non-corporate private ownership culture
promotes an excellent work environment where staff at all levels
are encouraged to participate in and contribute to
process improvement. Regular staff meetings, team building, social events and individual
staff reward foster an environment of minimal staff turnover that
maintains a high level of expertise and resource
allocation.
Almost all
operational management has been sourced from internal promotion.
This has allowed the companies to retain and build on the wealth of
the experience we have gained and allowed continued nurturing of the
strong identity our staff hold as being part of this successful
team.
Our Christchurch,
Dunedin and Queenstown companies have also initiated a staff share
scheme. This scheme is independantly audited and complies with the
Securities Commission guidelines.
Commitment to
the Electrical Industry
All Aotea
companies are active financial members of ECANZ (Electrical
Contractors Association of New Zealand). We pride ourselves in
maintaining representation on local ECANZ committees
within most areas. And we are proud of the fact that one of
our major shareholders, Murray Hughes, has been a past president of
the association.
Training
To show our
commitment to the future development of the electrical trade, all
companies carry a healthy number of apprentices. The progress of
each individual apprentice is monitored regularly by a senior member
of staff within each branch. this senior member of staff is tasked
with providing ongoing mentoring to our apprentices and ensuring
that they remain focused on their education and training.
Every year apprentices from Aotea
are encouraged to compete in the ECANZ Apprentice Challenge, held by ETITO. This is a
national competition which aims to help the personal development of
our apprentices, and assist them to benchmark and showcase their
skills.
The Aotea group
is also committed to the ongoing personal development and training
of every one of our staff. Many of our trade staff are furthering
their specialist skills at various polytechnics, and several of our
managers and supervisors are developing their management skills
through local polytechnics and universities.
Management
All divisions within each company are directly managed
by a divisional manager with supporting supervisors. This
focus ensures development of our diversified range of services, and
also ensures that everyone of our customers is
treated with the right amount of professional personalised courtesy and
support.

been built on delivering a superior performance achieved through
teamwork. we strongly believe that through working closely with and
understanding our customers we are able to provide a quality service
