Recent Contracting
Projects
Chinese Gardens This site
has just been completed in Dunedin. Aotea Southern were approached
by the client to form a partnership with the consultants and to come
up with a cost-effective solution to enable a very difficult project
to commence. Aotea donated its margin and reduced the rates to
assist with the development of this project. The difficulties
included working with fittings supplied by the client, and also the
language barrier involved with working alongside the Chinese workers
on the site. All services are hidden with no surface cabling on this
site. The services included electrical, fire alarms, data,
communications and hydraulics. The scope of the work included
approximately 2,600 hours, 400 lights (mostly ground mounted), and a
value of $250,000.
Visit the Dunedin City Council website for more
information about the Chinese Garden.

Finegand Lamb Cuts Upgrade The
client for this project called on Aotea to assist with a quick
turnkey project to be completed in the off-season at the meat works.
The work to date has completely reconfigured this area to
streamline processes, terminations of robotic machines to assist
with this. New mains supply, process switchboards, vacuum systems,
emergency lighting, chillers and surrounding buildings were also
upgraded using local resources. This peaked when 19 staff were on
site to complete the project and resume operation by early November
2008, as required. The project scope included approximately 4,000
hours with a value of about $700,000 (to date).

Hunter Building, Otago University This
university building was Dunedin's first 5 Star Green Star rated
building. This was retrofitted from old flats into a large
multi-purpose building for Otago University. Aotea resourced
information through its Green Star membership. The process was
simplified with a partnering approach with the consultants and a
can-do attitude from our staff on site using new technology and
environmentally friendly products to produce a very energy efficient
building. This project had a value of about $850,000, and 3,000
hours.
Visit
the NZ Green Building Council website for more information on Green
Star.

The notable attribute of the Southern
Branch Communications Division is Diversification intertwined with
Specialist Expertise. Due to our geographical location and
the smaller size ofDunedin City, (compared to other NZ
city centres) we have found it invaluable to be flexible and
diverse and to be able to fulfill a customer’s requirements without
introducing multiple independent service suppliers. (A One Stop Shop
formula)
Our staff have varied backgrounds,
skill sets and personalities which enable us to apply the right man
to the job on a wide spectrum of services, meeting and exceeding our
customers’ needs and expectations. We cover most aspects of
telecommunications requirements providing Turn Key solutions from a
Design–Build concept to fully commissioned and anything
in-between.
Our pride is based on being able to
turn a customers need, (either reactive or proactively) for
‘Something’ into an efficient - economical, scalable working
solution.

Recent Communications
Projects
Otago Polytechnic Aotea
Communications have supplied Otago Ploytechnic with most of their
Telecommunications, power and data services since 1995. In more
recent years this has been in conjunction with Commit Services (a
national telecommunications cabling company) whom have held the IT
Service contract with the Otago Polytechnic for a number of
years.
The Otago Polytechnic has evolved
through the Cabling Standards of Structured Cabling from Cat.5 to
the now default Cat.6 standard, and from conventional OM1 Fibre
cabling to an OM3 Blown Fibre reticulation solution.
The Otago Polytechnic often has
critical projects on compressed-programmed time frames to meet
holiday timetables. Aotea prides itself on the fact that we can
'muscle up' staff resources from throughout the Aotea Group for
these peak periods to ensure that our client's expectations and
requirements are met.
The scope of this work to date
involved over 10,000 hours and $1,000,000.
